October is Farm to Kids Month!
October is Farm to Kids Month – a time to enjoy and celebrate local food in our schools, early care settings and communities. It’s also a time to share gratitude with those who make Farm to Kids possible including farmers, educators, nutrition professionals, and community members.
This year’s theme is Harvesting Creativity, a celebration of local foods through creative storytelling, literacy and art that can bring local food to life beyond the cafeteria to explore the many connections food has in our learning communities.
There are so many ways to celebrate Farm to Kids and incorporate reading, writing and the arts!
- Check out Minnesota Ag in the Classroom for standards-based lessons for all age groups
- Create a photo collage or video showcasing your school’s Farm to Kids work
- Create a masterpiece work of art using items from the garden
- Write and perform a play or musical telling the story of a local food item that is a school favorite
or any other idea that sparks creativity and provides a way to celebrate our local food, community and students!
